I like the combination of client software and web service, especially with a mobile version.Thats why I always had an eye on NetNewsWire, and only the price stopped me from using it.
So I gave it a try immediately after it became Freeware, almost 3 weeks ago.

As of today I switched back to Google Reader, because as nice as NetNewsWire is, there mobile version just can’t beat the one from Google. Why?

NetNewsWire’s mobile version just presents you with a list of your feeds and folders, which sure lets you scroll through all of them pretty fast. But first you can’t mark single posts as read, only the whole list at once. So you have to actually read or scan through all posts in one topic before you can mark them as read. After selecting the 50th post to read it in more detail, and coming back you end up at the top of the list again. With a hard time ahead to find the next “unread” post, in that still more than 240 unread items containing list. On the other hand, Google splits your hundreds of unread posts into small lists and you can mark single items as read, or a whole list.

NetNewsWire is still one of the best Feed Readers out there, I just can’t live without a proper mobile version, anymore.Filed under failed attempts to get some data off Google.
